This happens to be a peace of work I wrote 2-3 years ago for My book Anabolic kitchen but some how this chapter got lost and never made its way into the book. I found it on my lap top the other day and figured why waste the hard work? Why not put it out there somewhere for people to see and enjoy. So I’m not going to alter it in anyway. I will just cut and paste it exactly as I wrote it years ago. Enjoy the seafood recipes and cooking tips guys. I hope this makes some ones life a little more simple and or exciting. Thanks

Turning the sea into on ocean of muscle

Like many children growing up I hated sea food. I couldn’t even stand the smell of sea food when my father used to cook it. I even hated tuna fish. The thought of eating something so smelly made me want to vomit. Years passed and as I grew up I started to get used to eating some fish and even grew to love others sea food dishes. However still to this day I am not really what anyone would call “a sea food lover” I love shell fish, and some sea food dishes . Mostly fresh water fish as it tends not to have that strong ocean taste that some sea food dishes like shark, sword fish, and octopus will have. With some sea food dishes I have had to rely on the taste buds of others to perfect my recipes.

It wasn’t until my stay in Italy that I really got serious about expanding my sea food recipes though. I remember taking my wife out to eat in Italy for the first time. Now mind you my wife hates all fish and the only kind of sea food she will eat is shell fish. Both of our thoughts on Italians main diets were about to change that day. We both fully expected to go to the first local restaurant and see hundreds of pasta , pizza and gnocchi recipes like all the Italian restaurants in America. “WOW” my wife says as she looks at the menu. “What the hell is this shit? “ she says. “ its fish honey” I tell her. “well what is that ?” She asks once more. “babe that’s baby squid” I say with frustration. Here let me just make it easy for you. “that’s backed shrimp, that’s fish, that’s fish , that right there is salad with fish, and that is fish soup. I think that’s bread but the rest of the menu is all seafood honey and non of its cooked the way you like”. My wife only likes it fried and fatty.
We walked for hours all over Italy to 5 different restaurants And every menu was the same. Fish, fish, and more fish. Sea food of every kind shape and form. This was not turning out to be the Italy I had in mind. In the end we finely found the type of restaurant we were looking for. My wife had some lovely gnocchi calbrese and I had some pizza. I spent the next 4 years in Italy with all the fish lovers and was forced to cook fish, learn fish, and love fish whether I wanted to or not. Of course I made the best of it and my sea food recipes grew and grew

Sea food facts, tips, and cooking methods

Calorie for calorie fish is the most satisfying and filling foods there is. Studies show fish fills you up and stops hunger cravings fast. This is a big help for people trying to cut calories and eat less. Fish is slam packed full of protein, low in fats, and most of the fats in fish is heart protecting omega-3 fatty acids. This not only makes it a great choice for body builders and athletes but health conscious eaters as well.
Although fish is a really great meal we should all limit our intake of seafood to just 3-4 times a week. Dangerous toxins are a real mythel mercury, polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxin, growth promoting hormones, and antibiotics are commonly found in all sea foods at our super markets.
Buying sea food .
Only buy seafood from reputable, commercial sources.
When you are food shopping, purchase seafood last and keep it cold. Ask your grocer to pack your seafood on ice for the trip home.
Fresh fish, shucked oysters and scallops have a mild, fresh sea breeze odor. A strong, fish odor generally is not acceptable.
Clams and oysters (molluscan shellfish) should be purchased alive. Shells of live clams and oysters may open naturally but will close tightly when tapped, indicating that they are alive. Discard any dead ones.
When you are over at the freezer section, look at the labels. The first thing you should look for is an indication that this seafood was caught in America, Canada, Iceland or New Zealand. These countries have the best fishing management practices in the world. Many other countries are over-fishing their part of the oceans. And a special note on farmed shrimp from Southeast Asia: These shrimp are loaded with chemicals and pesticides, and are so horrid for the environment — and the local people — that I recommend you avoid them altogether.
When buying whole fish look for bright clear eyes. The eyes are the window to a truly fresh fish, for they fade quickly into gray dullness. Dull-eyed fish may be safe to eat, but they are past their prime. Look at the body of the fish. Does it shine? Does it look metallic and clean? Or has it dulled or has discolored patches on it? If so, it is marginal. Smell the fish. A fresh fish should smell like clean water, or a touch briny or even like cucumbers. Under no circumstances should you buy a nasty smelling fish. Cooking won’t improve it . Look at the gills. They should be a rich red. If the fish is old, they will turn the color of faded brick. A fresh fish should be shiny and bright like buying a brand new car. Except nothing less if you want the best sea food.

Storing sea food

Store your seafood in the refrigerator if you intend to use it within two days after purchase. In case you will not use your seafood within two days after purchase, wrap it in moisture-proof paper or plastic wrap, placed in a heavy plastic bag, or stored in an air-tight, rigid container, and store it in the freezer. Keep the temperature of the refrigerator between 34° and 40°F, and of your freezer at 0°F or colder, as close to -20°F as possible.
Store live shellfish in containers covered with clean, damp towels or paper towels. Do not put live shellfish in an air-tight container where they could asphyxiate and die.
Shrimp, squid, and shucked shellfish should be storage in leak proof bags, plastic containers or covered jar.

Frozen seafood should be stored in the freezer. Get the best quality of your frozen fish or shellfish by using them within three to six months. After longer periods it is more probably they loose flavor and texture. Once your seafood is unfrozen, do not refreeze it.
Pasteurized crabmeat – heated in cans at a temperature high enough to kill bacteria, but lower than that used in canning – should be stored unopened in the refrigerator for up to 6 months and used within 4 days of opening.
When marinating raw seafood or shellfish, discard any leftover marinade unless you intend to use it as an accompanying sauce, in which case you should boil it first in order to destroy harmful bacteria

When thawing fish
The best way to thaw frozen raw seafood is similar to thawing a turkey. Keep the fish wrapped in its original packaging and allow it to thaw naturally in the refrigerator for several hours. Fish is a very delicate food, and quick thawing may cause more harm than good. If you must thaw fish quickly, use a very clean sink with good drainage.

Take the frozen seafood out of the packaging and place it in the sink. Run a steady stream of cold water over the fish, and do not allow the water to pool up. Continue to run water over the fish until it is completely thawed. Place the fish in a strainer to remove extra moisture, and then place the entire batch into a bed of ice until you are ready to prepare it.

There is no doubt that creatine is one of the biggest supplement breakthroughs to hit the market since the invention of protein powder. The effects of creatine use can no longer even be questioned. In fact creatine works so well that some sports leagues have banned its use. Why creatine is so well known for promoting muscle mass, and is so effective at doing so. That many of us have a friend or two who have made the comment “dude you’re taking creatine? That’s the same thing as taking steroids, its cheating!!!” Of course you and I know better, and anyone who has spent enough time on a steroid/bodybuilding forum also knows better. OR DO THEY???

If you have spent time one any steroid/bodybuilding forum you may have seen this questioned asked more than a few times. Is creatine worth taking well on a steroid cycle?
Often no real good answer for either side of the argument is given. Half truths, guesses, and at best a semi explained reason for one side or the other. Today I am not only going to give the the answer but cover the topic in great detail. If you’re not taking creatine with your steroid cycles now, you will be after today. If you are taking creatine during your steroid cycles you will double or triple your intake after today. Today you will not only learn why creatine is worth taking during a steroid cycle but that is detrimental to your gains. Today you will learn that creatine can be the difference in good gains and Massive gains!!!!

Normally I would like to have put everything in my own words. However the following quote covers the fundamental foundations of the topic so thoroughly that it’s imposable not to use his work. So I will simple build on the foundation in which Mr. Michael Gunddill has set in place for us.

“Michael Gundill (a.k.a. Dharkam)….Although creatine does have testosterone-like effects, it doesn’t act as a steroid hormone. Instead, it’s a mediator of some of the androgens’ anabolic effects. In fact, steroid users get far more out of their cycles if they take in massive amounts of creatine along with the drugs. Androgens are among the hormones that can force the entry of creatine into muscle cells. While there’s a clear relationship between muscle strength gains and increases in muscle creatine stores, unfortunately, the relationship is not as obvious when it comes to increases in muscle mass. Animal-based studies have shown that the muscles of untrained rats take up as much creatine as the muscles of trained rats, but the ANABOLIC effects of creatine are only obvious in trained rats. Therefore, training increases the muscles sensitivity to the anabolic actions of creatine. (Although it’s not related to this article, the study also demonstrated that the anabolic effects of creatine are DIRECT, and not mediated by water retention. In fact, in the 1970s American and Russian studies pointed out a DIRECT anabolic effect of creatine on muscle cells). Testosterone increases the muscles’ sensitivity to the anabolic properties of creatine in addition to enhancing the creatine buildup in muscle fibers. It’s also obvious that part of the strength gains people experience while on steroids are mediated by an increase in muscle creatine stores. An interesting discovery A/S users have made is that they should dramatically increase their creatine intake during a cycle to boost the potency of the steroids. Thanks to creatine, people can build more muscle mass with fewer drugs. Anecdotal evidence from A/S users points out that it takes at least 10-15 grams(maintenance)of creatine a day to visibly enhance the the anabolic potency of a steroid stack. There are probably good reasons for the increased creatine requirement when androgen levels are high. As mentioned above, steroids increase the muscle uptake of creatine, and if the muscles are ready to accept more creatine, why not give it to them? I also think that even though steroids enhance creatine synthesis, they may increase creatine degradation as well-so more creatine is used up every day. That could be due to an increase in muscle creatine turnover and also the fact that an elevated muscle Protein synthesis rate will likely consume creatine at a faster rate. Other reasons for a higher creatine requirement may be indirect. Because the muscles of drug users are stronger and receive more training, they may waste greater amounts of creatine during training. Once inside the muscle, creatine provides not only an anabolic effect, but also a rapidly mobilized source of fuel. Muscle Protein synthesis is a process that wastes great amounts of energy. Anabolism is an ATP-dependent process, which means that it’s essential for Protein synthesis. If the cellular level of ATP is reduced even a little, IT STOPS ANABOLISM. So even if you can increase the testosterone content of your muscles, nothing will happen if your ATP level is low. Creatine supports anabolism by providing energy to the muscle”

Now I will expand on this subject and shed light as to why this guy was pretty much spot on with what he said. People always promote creatine off cycle, but I like our good friend “Michael Gundill” Feel the steroid world must know the truth, and we must change the way people think!!

Recent research has shown that both creatine and AAS work through the same mechanisms within the body. The most notable mechanism in which they work through to create their anabolic effects is GLUT-4. Glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) belongs to the assisted glucose transporter family and is mainly expressed in insulin-sensitive tissues, muscle and fat. In response to insulin, and other stimuli such as exercise, GLUT4 undergoes a rapid redistribution within the cell that results in a gain in surface of GLUT4 levels, and this mechanism predominantly accounts for changes in glucose transport in muscle and adipocytes (liver cells). This mechanism involves a complex interplay between signal transduction and vesicular transport pathways. As we all know insulin plays a huge role in controlling blood glucose. This also explains why bodybuilders are willing to gamble and inject insulin even though they know there is a chance of dying after each injection. After this research was released doctors told their diabetic patients to sway from creatine usage due to its similarity to insulin in which it works within the body! While creatine may not be as potent as Slin it still holds its own benefits not only through Glut-4 but through other prime examples you will read.

What is Creatine:
Creatine is an nitrogen based organic amino acid that supplies ATP to the muscles. In humans, about half of the daily creatine is biosynthesized from three different amino acidsarginine, glycine, and methionine. The rest is taken in by alimentary sources. Ninety-five percent of creatine is later stored in the skeletal muscles. About 50% of our creatine is obtained from our diet (mainly meats) and the balance is created/manufactured by our own liver, pancreas and kidneys through endogenous synthesis aka our own protein synthesis without the help of Gear. Vegetarians have creatine in their muscles, but at a lower level than meat eaters. The respectable average external daily dietary requirement is about 2 grams obtained from meat and meat products. Demanded muscle energy comes from the ATP-PC (adenosine triphosphate-phosphacreatine) system. ATP is basically a source of readily available muscular energy source. ATP is the compound muscles use to do work. It’s the “PC” part of the the ATP-PC system that regenerates ATP levels. The body only makes about 1 to 3 grams of creatine per day. Creatine uptake is augmented by combining creatine supplementation with exercise and with carbohydrate ingestion. There is one way creatine works. One way is through anaerobic glycolysis also known as anaerobic exercise. When we’re exercising hard; ATP is released to the muscular system in order to give us continuing muscular energy. And, of course, we know what happens. Waste products like lactic acid build up in the muscles as a result of anaerobic activity and we get tired! Creatine of course delays the lactic acid build factor by providing the much needed ATP to the muscle. This is where creatine steps in. While no one fully understands the way creatine supplements work, a 1994 study demonstrated that creatine phosphate stored in muscles lead to a lesser dependence on the anaerobic process for the replenishing of muscular ATP! This means less muscular waste products like lactic acid and enables a longer cycle of muscular activity before fatigue and muscular exhaustion.
French scientist Michel Eugene Chevreul discovered creatine in 1835. Chevreul isolated a component of skeletal muscle – the voluntary muscle we use in exercise – and named it after the Greek work for flesh -Kreas. He found the presence of muscular creatine was ten times more concentrated in wild animal muscle than in zoo animal muscles. This observation linked creatine with effective muscular activity – the thought being that a wild tiger, for instance, could be expected to run and jump better than a captive tiger.

Creatine is primarily found in skeletal muscle and early 1900’s research indicated that the presence of creatine in skeletal muscle could be increased by eating more meat. This leads us to the early historical use of creatine and creatine sources. Creatine benefits have been recognized for a long time. A Wrestler by the name of Milo of Croton is one of the first documented competing strong men. He lived in the late 6th century B.C. and was a five time wrestling champion at the 62nd through 66th Olympiads. Milo’s daily diet included 20 pounds of meat daily! Milo incongruously died while attempting to split a tree trunk by hand without using wedges. Milo became stuck in the tree and was subsequently eaten by wolves. This shows why meat is clearly a great source of creatine, reason why I ALWAYS suggest meat to be eaten instead of an only whey diet. A 1928 study showed that creatine increased muscular body mass and weight and opened the door to creatine as a possible source of athletic performance improvement. Eastern Bloc countries in fact have used creatine benefits as athletic performance enhancer since the 1922 Olympics. Some sports historians feel that it was creatine that gave cold war era athletes their Olympic edge over other competitors. In the 1990’s researchers brought creatine to the public as an ergogenic aid, and muscular strength enhancer. The rumors of creatine benefits entered the sports performance markets, which allowed this dietary supplement sales to soar. In, 1997 sales of creatine in the United States alone topped $100 million US dollars and have continued to grow well past 400 million in the US alone as of 2001. Today creatine makes up a whopping 10% of the sports supplement market!!

More interestingly, a 1998 survey conducted by a British newspaper on 360 elite athletes showed 44% were using creatine regularly (daily basis), including 100% of rugby league players and 100% of weightlifters. To no surprises it was these types of athletes, since the creatine benefits are primarily associated with explosive athletic movements or explosive output.
About 50% of our creatine is obtained from our diet (meats) and the balance is created by our own liver, pancreas and kidneys through endogenous synthesis. This is why vegetarians have creatine in their muscles, although at a lower level than meat eaters. The recognized average external daily dietary requirement is about 2 grams obtained from meat and meat products. To understand the role of creatine in muscular activity we need a little background in muscular physiology 101. On-demand muscle energy comes from the ATP-PC (adenosine triphosphate-phosphacreatine) system. Think of ATP as a readily available muscular energy source. ATP is the compound muscles use to do work. It’s the “PC” part of the ATP-PC system that refreshes ATP levels. The body only makes about 1 to 3 grams of creatine per day. Creatine uptake is augmented by combining creatine supplementation with exercise and with carbohydrate ingestion.
There’s a couple of ways this works. One way is through “anaerobic glycolysis” – anaerobic exercise. When we’re exercising hard this is the muscular system that is giving us continuing muscular energy. And, of course, we know what happens. Waste products like lactic acid build up in the muscles as a result of anaerobic activity and we get tired!

Creatine good for the brain?
This study, along with a couple I came across explain that besides the ergogenic benefits creatine acts as a neuroprotective in possibly allowing one to avoid Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. AAS is known to have neuro stimulative activities along with nuero damaging properties. Another reason why creatine should be reconsidered while on cycle to minimize any potential damage one may encounter during cycle. Am I saying that AAS is going to give you neurological issues NOT AT ALL! I am just suggesting that it is always good to have supporting supplements while on just in case if one is unaware of any genetic or medical issues and creatine definitely provides health to brain function.

Perks of Increased Protein Synthesis while on Cycle!
As you may know already, AAS increase both nitrogen retention and protein synthesis. One reason why many say eat, lift, sleep, then eat again and you will grow! The more protein the better, many say well only on cycle can you really reap the benefits of increased protein synthesis, yet I have two articles here that display that creatine ENHANCES PROTEIN SYNTHESIS!

What is Protein synthesis?
It’s a process by which ones DNA encodes the proteins and and aminos for specific instructions. The process of protein synthesis is undergone through two steps which are Transcription (first step) and Translation. These steps just take mRNA splice them to the cell and make the function or development of the DNA’s plan.

Creatine is a myostatin inhibitor!
See, lots of people feel that creatine on cycle is a waste because it only ads “water weight”, but that is false as you can see since creatine a myostatin blocker. This makes gains on cycle even GREATER than when on gear alone. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC426911/?page=4

What are Myostatin levels?
A team of scientists/researchers were led by McPherron and Lee at John Hopkins University was investigating a group of proteins that regulate cell growth and differentiation. During their investigations they discovered the gene that could be responsible for the improbability of increased muscle mass, also known as double-muscling (1, 2). Myostatin, is the protein that encodes the gene. It’s a member of a of related molecules called transforming growth factors beta (TGF-b ).Myostatin is also called or titled as growth and differentiation factor-8 (GDF-8). Higher living organisms are comprised of many different types of cells whose growth, function and development must be coordinated for the function of individual tissues, and the entire organism as a whole. This function is attainable by specific intercellular signals, which control tissue growth, function and development. These molecular signals display a surge of events in the target cells, referred to as cell signaling, leading to a maximum response within or by the cell. Typical hormones are long-range signaling molecules which are known as the endocrine hormones (which are responsible for TESTOSTERONE and other androgens). These substances are produced and secreted by cells or tissues (pituitary glands) and circulated through the blood supply and other bodily fluids to enhance the activity of cells or tissues elsewhere within the body. Growth factors (GF) are normally effective in EXTREMELY low concentrations and have high affinity for their corresponding receptors on target cells. For each type of GF there is a specific receptor in the cell membrane and/or nucleus. When GF is bound to their ligand, the receptor-ligand complex begins an intracellular signal inside of the cell or nucleus, and modifies the cell’s function. A GF may have different biological effects depending on which type of cell with which it interacts. The response of a target cell depends greatly on the receptors that cell expresses. Some GFs, such as insulin-like growth factor (IGF) have broad specificity and affect many classes of cells. Others act only on one cell type and display a specific response. Many growth factors promote or inhibit cellular function and could definitely be multifactoral. Two or more substances may be required to induce a specific cellular response. Creation, growth and development of most cells require a specific combination of GFs rather than a single GF. Growth promoting substances may be counterbalanced by growth inhibiting substances (and vice versa) much like a feedback system. The point where many of these substances correspond to produce a specific response depends on other regulatory factors, such as environmental or otherwise. Here is a fun fact; so far studies suggest that African Americans tend to have low serum concentrations of myostatin levels which explain why they develop such refined fast twitch muscle fibers. One of the reasons why scientists are trying to find a way to naturally inhibit myostatin levels, thus far they have been unsuccessful in doing so. So now think about it; creatine inhibits myostatin which allows for faster recovery, muscle growth, fast twitch muscle fiber development(enhanced athletic development), and bone/muscle regeneration. Sounds like combining it with a AAS would be OUTSTANDING. The magic doesn’t stop there!!!!!

Pay close attention, If you have ever been caught saying ” I only use steroids, and supplements are all a waste of money” You are about to look like a fool my friend and everyone’s going to be laughing at you once the word gets out.

Muscle cells or muscle fibers are multinucleated. In other words they have more than one nuclei that control the complex tasks they take on throughout the day.
An example if you will. If your muscle was a product manufacturing plant and the nuclei were the workers at this plant. It would be very easy to see that the number of workers in the plant sets the limit of product output from the plant, and also directly effects the size to which the manufacturing plant can grow to. Both the size of the plant and the product output form it cannot increase without more workers. In the same sense (or in a roundabout way) both the size of your muscles and there output are limited to the number of nuclei within the muscle fibers. Putting it as simple as one can. Without more nuclei to take care of extra muscle, growth and output can only increase so much. After which your muscle are stuck in the small business market until a company expansion takes place and new employees are brought in to take on the extra work load.

These muscle nuclei sprout from specialized cells around the muscle called satellite cells. So without a increase in satellite cells a increase in nuclei cannot take place. Think of your satellite cells as your human resources department. They do all the hiring of employees and thus help expand your number of workers. without a good functioning HR department you get no steady flow of workers coming in. Likewise a thriving satellite team means the possibility of a good steady flow of fresh new employees to work your muscle factory and keep it growing.

The use of steroids has shown to increase the number of satellite cells within the muscle fibers. This of course leads to a increase in nuclei (workers). Creatine through human study has shown to
ncrease the number of nuclei that sprout forth from the number of increased satellite cells!!!!! So let me do the math for all you “I only use steroids, and supplements are all a waste of money” keyboard commandos out on the forums.

Steroids+creatine= more satellite cells+more nuclei=THE ABILITY TO GROW LARGER MUSCLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I had to be the one to break it to you guys. Supplements are not a waste of money and in fact if you are not taking creatine with your steroid cycles. You are the one wasting your money
not getting the gains from your steroid cycles that you could have been getting. Creatine continues to prove to the world why it should be a staple for any hardcore athlete and bodybuilder. Now it’s proved equally if not substantially more important to the steroid user as well.

Needtobuildmuscle.com understands the importance of creatine supplementation for both the average gym goers and the hard core chemically enhanced. That is why we bring you 3 powerful ways fill your muscles with the mass bringing creatine they need.

1. Ancient Strength

Ancient Strength is an IDEAL creatine Supplement
Ancient strength consists of creatine monohydrate, creatine phosphate, Creatine phosphate, and creatine pyruvate. Let us break this down. As mentioned earlier creatine monohydrate on its own is an ABSOLUTE staple for anyone who wants to enhance muscle gains. Now we take a look at creatine phosphate; Creatine phosphate allows for MORE creatine mono to be utilized according to a couple of the studies I have came across recently. Creatine phosphate is an organic compound that provides a rapid source of energy for muscle fibers to contract when they need an initial burst of energy. It is also found in the brain and provides a similar burst of energy for neurons similar to that of creatine monohydrate. A phosphate attached to creatine is referred to as being phosphorylated, and this phosphate bond is a high-energy one like that of ATP. If all of the creatine phosphate is used up, the cells can still produce ATP by an alternate method of energy production that is much less efficient. Creatine phosphate can be best described as creatine that has already been processed through the liver allowing it to be stored MUCH easier into the muscle. Creatine continues to prove to the world why it should be a staple for any hardcore athlete and bodybuilder. Creatine monohydrate with an “attached” acid intended to boosting endurance exercise capacity such as pyruvic acid, ( a man ingredient in Ancient strength) should eventually benefit athletes involved in sports combining endurance and high intensity exercise. A study showed how Creatine Pyruvate improved contraction velocity and reduces fatigability during sporadic exercise of high intensity. Creatine Pyruvate showed significant improvements in force during all intervals, whereas the effects of Creatine Citrate decreased and improvements were not significant during the later intervals. The effect of Creatine Pyruvate resulted from an increased contraction and relaxation speed and is accompanied by enhanced oxygen consumption and blood flow. More blood flow means more NITROGEN RETENTION which as we know enhances nutrient delivery buffers lactic acid and enhances muscle GROWTH! In this study a WHOPPING 15 out of 16 athletes had NOTABLE increases in body weight mostly from LEAN BODY MASS! So let us now reevaluate Ancient Strength. We know that Creatine monohydrate works but is known for its slower absorption time, however Ancient Strength provides much faster absorption through its acid bond for solubility. This results in better performance from creatine in which one consumes. Last we get the final touch from the much needed creatine phosphate which is needed in order to be able to use more creatine monohydrate.

So you get instant ATP replenishment combined with a prolonged energy effect that not only gives you strength, focus, and drive NOW, but also last and last.

A reporter interviewing A.J. Muste, who during the Vietnam War stood in front of the White House night after night with a candle, one rainy night asked,”Mr. Muste, do you really think you are going to change the policies of this country by standing out here alone at night with a candle?” Muste replied, “Oh, I don’t do it to change the country, I do it so the country won’t change me.

As Many of you know this morning the NTBM site was yet again the victim of a hacker attack. Everything from the store to the forums had to be shut down in order to prevent access to any of it to the hackers who were trying to get in and cause problems. Personally I am not so concerned with the hacker attacks. I see it as just part of the industry now. After all it happens to just about every site nowadays.

It was the hackers who caused the shut down of my site though and because of that something else was brought to light for me. In the past when my forums or store has gone down I would get a few pm’s, a email or two and maybe a phone call from a friend. People closest to me would always contact me just to make sure everything was alright. I thank you if you are one of these persons who always cares enough to ask.

This morning however it was a totally different story. I walk up this afternoon and my wife explained to me what had happen. How the site was shut down by my site techs to protect the servers from another hacker attack. As always I fully expected just a few of the regular contacts from friends about the site being down.

However this time the site shut down was for more reaching then just a few contacts from friends. My support email was packed with hundreds of emails from people all over the internet. I have gotten pm’s on every site from elitefitness.com to bodybuildingdungeon.com and every site between. Much to my surprise Threads about the site being down popped up on many different sites and more then just my own forum of elite.

I was excited to see so many people come to the ntbm forums and site, but what touched me more then the numbers of people contacting me. Was the kind of Msg I was getting sent. Everything from members who thought they got banned and were begging for a second chance. To men and woman expressing how much the site means to them and they hope that it is not offline for ever.

A such man talked about how he was about to start a cycle soon and with out the support of his friends on my forum he was just going to scratch the whole thing. A few more expressed how they had been a member of the forums from day one, and would hate to think about having to go back to there old forum or start looking for a new home.

All of this had me thinking this morning. Many years ago I made some changes in my life. I made the choice to be a better person and to start giving back to all the people who had been giving to me for so long. To stop being a jerk to others and no matter how many times I got attacked to never attack back.
I have been doing all I can to change my life and the lives of others around me since then.

I have seen so many angry, hate filled, hurtful, spiteful, attacking, and down right uncaring people cluttering up the forums and sites we all try to call home. For a time I was one of them and prob one of the worst of them. It has been a great challenge to find a forum/site that dose not think that on some level these kinds of actions are needed. Every site I have been a part of I have tried to urge the leadership to change the atmosphere of the site to a more helpful caring one but yet even on sites that I have a lot of control over have met my pleads with resentment and the same old excuses.

People need to get thinker skin!
I am only keeping it real!
People need to know so I am doing them a favor by being a jerk and attack this other person
Its not real its only the internet
Its only for fun
With out some drama a site is boring
And on and on and on the excuses pile up.

Its been said over and over again that a site can not be drama free or 100% respectful. That a site would never become anything big with out some tension and drama. Still I have always pressed on and new in my heart that it can be done. That a forum and grow and become just as big as all the other sites like it yet all across the board in every forum a standard of respect can be met. That a whole forum centered around people helping people can become larger then life. It can grow and reach to the far ends of the internet.

Maybe Needtobuildmuscle.com is nothing big to others. Maybe its just a tiny site, a speckle in the eyes of the other giants in this industry. But for me and growing number of others its a lot bigger then we ever dreamed it could be, and its getting bigger everyday. I know more people then others would believe want what I want and its showing more now then ever.

More people are standing up and demanding better. More people are getting behind Myself and the NTBM team and helping to push this new Msg to the rest of the industry. Being kind all the time is not for pussies. Helping others and always having something positive to say is not for the weak. A site can grow with out the dram. A forum can become something big with out the flame wars and dram. It can and it is!!!!!!!

So to all my friends and supporters I want you to know we are doing it. We are making a difference. We who have stood with a candle in the rain for so long now are setting thing on fire. Keep spreading the word and keep up all the hard work you have been putting in. NTBM is growing and its spread its wings to almost every other fitness site on the net. Thank you

Are Carbs such a Bad Thing?

For many years bodybuilders have touted carbohydrates as the enemy to staying lean while building muscle. What are carbohydrates? In terms of science manuals, “a Carbohydrate is an organic compound with the general formula Cm(H2O)n, that consists only of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, the last two in the 2:1 atom ratio. Carbohydrates can be viewed as hydrates of carbon, hence their name.” The basic role of carbohydrates may be summed up by saying that these supply energy to the body. Glucose is the most important source of carbohydrates. It is a simple sugar, (monosaccharide) which is metabolized by nearly all known organisms, even plants! Scientific studies estimate a release of 4 kcal (approximately) of energy by the oxidation of just one gram of carbohydrate. This energy is temporarily stored within the human cells in the form of ATP. Since it is easier to metabolize carbohydrates than fats and proteins, carbohydrates are a superior short-term fuel Yet at the same time are also a much better sustainable fuel for the body as well ( more on this later).

There are four types of carbohydrates. Monosaccharides, disaccharides, Oligosaccharides and polysaccharides. Mono and disaccharides are simple carbohydrates. Oligosaccharides and polysaccharides are the complex carbs, however oligarosaccharides can also be disaccharides. Glucose galactose and fructose are found in monosaccharides; Lactose, sucrose, and maltose are found in disaccharides; polysaccharides consist of fiber, glycogen and starch. Monosaccharides are the simplest units of carbohydrates and known as the sugar molecule. Disaccharides are formed from two monosaccharide molecules and are what we would see in processed sugars. Polysaccharides are formed from multiple bonds of monosaccharides. One of the more prominent individuals such as Dave Palumbo has always been one against the idea of a carb based diet unless one is dirty bulking; yet he advocates that once a week people should do refeeds to speed up their metabolism. That right there lets you know that carbs ARE needed for fat loss and not just bulking. While protein does have the highest satiety after ingestion, protein also can only be consumed in small amounts due to protein synthesis. Our natural bodies were only meant to absorb and digest 30gs per 90 minutes( On avg) . If we do the math here that would equate to a measly 120 calories. In order to gain muscle one must intake a sufficient amount of calories, while expending it in the gym with weights to build lean body mass.

Why Are Low Carbohydrate Diets Unhealthy?

We have all learned the basics of a balanced diet in our elementary school. However, in our quest to achieve matchless bodies, whether a size zero or a six pack abdomen, we have chosen to forget the valuable lesson of nutrition and its importance. There has been a phenomenal surge in diet plans which advise low-carb, high protein intake as part of our daily food consumption. What most of these diets are ignoring is the age old wisdom that advocates a balanced diet for the over all well being. By restricting the intake of carbohydrates in our diet, we might be exposing our health to a number of side effects which may not be immediately visible. For the regular gym goer’s and the every day person who want to be more fit and healthy Carbs are a must.

All over the internet we see low carb this and cut down your carbs that. Extreme low carb diets have made there way out of the pro level bodybuilding arena and seemingly avalanched there way into every nook and cranny of our lives. Magazines,TV ads, News papers, and all over the internet on every site across the world. Some people are deathly afraid to even look at a carb its gotten so bad.

Low Carb Dieting Plans

As mentioned earlier, there has been a surge in the number of diet plans which advocate low-carbohydrate intakes. Known as low-carb diets, these work on the basic premise that by decreasing (or completely cutting out) carbohydrates from our diet, we can reduce the volume of insulin in our body. With the decrease in availability of insulin, the main source of energy would then be proteins from the food eaten or released in the body and fat which is stored in the body. The success rate of such diets is quite high in the short term, with most individuals losing high amounts of water from the body and also a general reduction in the levels of water retention. Weight loss with such diets is also attributed to the loss of muscle tissue. Weight loss through the loss of muscle weight or tissue is not only short lived but also detrimental to the over all health in the long as well as short run. This is also true for those aiming at muscle building. Since the diet has obvious negative effects on the state of muscles in the body, how then can a high protein diet, which is low on carbohydrate, be good for muscle building? Besides, the obvious side effect, the main problem faced post the weight loss would be maintaining the weight. Remember people. Pro level Athletes (99.99% of them) use low carb diets only for a time being for contest prep. On top of that steroids and muscle preserving compounds are almost always used in conjunction with there low carbs diets. If anyone is getting the hints here I am not saying now carb diets don’t work. Or that they do not have there place in Fitness. Lets us but them in there place though and keep them there where they belong.

Are Carbs Bad for One’s Health?

Over the years there have been debates over the issue of whether carbohydrates are good or detrimental to one’s health. Sometimes it is hard to say because some people’s diets are so careless that the choices of carbs they eat are detrimental to their health such as candy or McDonald’s. This specific study explains how with a high carbohydrate low fat diet, triacylglycerols decreased and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol increased to a greater extent in the very low carbohydrate high fat diet, whereas low-density lipoprotein cholesterol decreased in the HCLF diet but remained unchanged in VLCHF diet, while having SIMILAR results in fat loss. The study explains that people on VLCHF should have their lipids monitored consistently so that they do not end up with high cholesterol leading to severe consequences. Of the 88 subjects who completed the study, 15 were taking estrogens for hormone replacement therapy, 27 subjects were taking antihypertensive medication, and 18 were taking lipid-lowering medication. No subjects were taking hypoglycemic medication. According to the study these factors were not of much affect to the results. The subjects on the HCLF were consuming foods such as potatoes, lentils, beans, green beans, vegetables, high fiber cereal, yogurt, some nuts, chicken, beef, pork, and skim milk. The subjects of the VLCHF were consuming eggs, cheese, whole milk, turkey, chicken, ham, and 25 grams of butter/oil. Another observation was noted in which that both diets allowed for equal amounts of energy, as fat loss came more energy was useable. [1] This study not only proves that a high carbohydrate diet can be useful for losing weight but it also has a nice benefit on lipids.

This next study talks about the benefits of a rich fiber carbohydrate diet in those suffering from a condition called syndrome X, an example of a rich fiber carbohydrate would be oatmeal. Syndrome X refers to a condition in which several specific abnormalities are clustered together with insulin resistance as the main defect. Increased intra-abdominal adipose tissue may be the reason in the development of this syndrome. Elevated stress hormone cortisol secretion, abnormal uric acid metabolism, and polycystic ovary syndrome have also been associated with this syndrome. Recently, increased concentrations of C-reactive protein were found to be strongly correlated with waist circumference and visceral fat, suggesting that inflammation may be another abnormality correlated with syndrome X. Individuals who suffer from this syndrome are at risk of cardiovascular disease even if lipoprotein density levels are normal; which makes this syndrome extremely dangerous. This syndrome is obtained through genetics and behavior; approximately 25% to 40% come from heredity. It has been estimated that 50% of the variability in insulin-mediated glucose disposal in non-diabetic individuals is attributable to genetic factors, with the remaining 20% to 25% attributed to obesity and physical inactivity.

It is generally accepted that consumption of fiber-rich carbohydrates is important for gastrointestinal health by decreasing constipation and reducing risk of diverticular disease. A high intake of fiber-rich carbohydrates is beneficial for weight management/loss and for reducing risk of cardiovascular disease. A high fiber intake may reduce risk of certain types of cancer, specifically colorectal and breast cancer which is a plus for women of all ages. All fiber-rich foods help prevent constipation and diverticulosis, foods rich in soluble fiber delay gastric emptying and enhance satiety, just as foods rich in insoluble fiber increase fecal bulk (bowel movement) and decrease gastrointestinal transit time. When rats were given soluble fiber rich carbohydrates, their blood glucose concentrations improved due to the uptake of the glycoprotein GLUT-4 within the muscles. The study also suggests a high carbohydrate low fat diet rich in fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, and whole grains is effective in lowering blood pressure. Therefore, the available literature suggests that either weight loss or a whole-food high carbohydrate low fat diet containing multiple sources of fiber-rich carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and not just the accumulation of a single source of fiber such as oats or grits may be necessary to significantly reduce arterial blood pressure. Always monitor the amount of fiber that is in your carbohydrate intake so that the fiber intake does not deplete other important macro/micro nutrients. [2]

Through these two studies we see a myriad of the benefits that carbohydrates have on health and fat loss. One cannot deny that carbohydrates are truly beneficial for one’s lipids. If one has bad cholesterol they will not be able to perform physically like they want to. Bad lipids make cardio/breathing uneasy resulting in less intensified performance. Less performance whether it be in the weight room, bedroom, or athletic event leads to less accomplishments. People respond differently to different diets, although science shows that a high carbohydrate can be used while on a cut which to anyone in the bodybuilding industry may find this shocking since they are so accustomed to using a high protein diet to reach gluconeogenesis, and then eventually ketosis. The problem with ketosis is it can lead to Ketoacidosis, ketoacidosis is basically when too much ketone acids build up in the blood causing ph levels of the blood to decrease; which can be fatal!

Carbs are IDEAL for Muscle Growth!

Glycogen plays a HUGE role in preserving muscle. Glycogen is an animal starch made by the liver and through glycogenesis; eventually stored in the pancreas when there is no more space for it in the liver. How does carbs become glycogen? As one eats a meal containing carbohydrates; as its eaten and digested, blood glucose levels arise, and the pancreas secretes insulin. Glucose from the hepatic portal vein enters the liver cells. Insulin then acts on the liver cells to stimulate the action of several enzymes, including glycogen synthase. Glucose molecules eventually are added to the chains of glycogen as long as both insulin and glucose remain in abundance. In this feeding state of being, the liver takes in more glucose from the blood than it releases. After a meal has been digested and glucose levels begin to drop, insulin secretion is reduced, and glycogen synthesis comes to a hault. When it is needed for energy, glycogen is broken down and converted into glucose again. Glycogen phosphorylase is the primary enzyme of glycogen breakdown. For the next ten to tweleve hours, glucose derived from liver glycogen will be the primary source of blood glucose to be used by the rest of the body for energy. Glycogen is ideal for feeding the muscle cells since it does not break easily, not even from osmotic pressure. Eating small amounts of carbohydrates more often, is another way to maintain the level of blood sugar without increasing the insulin level to a point where it leads to weight gain. Over eating of any nutrient, whether it be carbohydrate- simple or complex, protein etc, would always lead to weight gain. This happens essentially since the body is unable to utilize the extra nutrients and stores it for future use in the form of fat! Being prudent while selecting what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat essential for all purposes, whether it be losing weight, gaining weight, gaining muscle mass (bodybuilding) or even maintaining the state of body.

Low Carbs Don’t Cut it!

While women benefit and do not store as much glycogen as men according to this article [3], they still had significant increases in glycogen retention. These well trained female athletes obtained the increases in glycogen by increasing their intake of carbohydrates to 78% of macro-nutrient intake. The increase in glycogen retention allowed them to perform better in physical performance. Increased performance leads to muscle enhancement and strength increase/output. Carbohydrate feedings maintain blood glucose levels, reduce muscle glycogen depletion during prolonged exercise, and enhance physical performance. There are countless studies that show this to be a proven fact. Glycogen also allows for faster recovery after strenuous exercise or physical activity. Carbohydrates are the most important macro-nutrient in the athlete’s diet because CHO stores in the body are relatively small. After l-3 hours of continuous exercise athletes fatigue due to Carbohydrate depletion. A reduction in blood glucose may result in diminished muscle glucose uptake, a decrease in the rate of CHO oxidation and reduced exercise performance capacity. Conversely, enhanced physical output corresponds well with elevated CHO oxidation values and blood glucose level maintained as a result of carbohydrate ingestion. Therefore, consuming CHO will ensure CHO availability during the latter stages of exercise.

What to take After Physical Activity?

For years experts in the bodybuilding industry always suggested protein right after working out. However as one trains intensely; their blood glucose levels drop dramatically. How does this occur? When an individual starts to exercise, the insulin output of his pancreas goes down. At first blush, this seems backward since the muscles are working hard and therefore require more glucose to be transported from the blood into the cells. There are two reasons more glucose can be transported with less available insulin. The first is that during exercise insulin becomes much more efficient. The mechanism of this effect is not fully understood, but it helps overcomes the reduction in circulating insulin. Second, exercise activates non-insulin mediated glucose transport pathways. These pathways are not sufficient to handle the load in the absence of insulin, but do increase the effective insulin efficiency. Eating fast acting carbohydrates such as dextrose, maltodextrin are great ways to bring back blood glucose levels up to par; it is also a great way to bring cortisol down allowing for TESTOSTERONE TO RISE! Of course, with an ABUNDANT intake of carbohydrates, the amount of maltodextrin needed would be minimal compared to a diet of lesser CHO intake. This article [4] explains how carbohydrates slow the effects of protein ingestion; allowing one to store more glycogen and protein into the muscles. Protein depends on carbohydrates to help store in the muscles through the uptake of the GLUT-4 glycoprotein. This study finds; that the method of combining carbohydrates and protein allow for more lean body mass and strength accumulation.

Which Carbs Should I Avoid?

Many people wonder what type of carbohydrates they should eat when they are starting to monitor their diet. With the exception of the post workout meal that requires a high-glycemic based carbohydrate to spike insulin levels, low glycemic carbohydrates should be one’s first choice of carbohydrates.
What is the GI system? The glycemic index is a numerical system of determining how fast a carbohydrate triggers an increase in circulating blood sugar and how well the glucose molecules breakdown. The higher the number, the greater the blood sugar response entails. A low GI food will cause a small rise, while a high GI food will cause a dramatic spike. Basically, the lower the glycemic index is; the better it is for people who suffer from diabetics and people trying to lose weight/live health lives. There are what on the surface seem to be apparent contradictions. For example, white rice is generally considered to be a high glycemic food, yet there are several white rice entries in the low glycemic list. There are also many good choices that have not as yet been tested such as exotic fruits which are a widely, known to be solid choices in most nutrition plans. As mentioned before eating carbohydrates with protein will lower the GI, making it easier on the lipids and allowing for better insulin response. [5]

Side Effects Attached

Apart from the benefits of including carbohydrates in the diet, knowing the side effects of being on a low-carbohydrate diet is also essential. A deficiency of any sort in our body is as harmful as having an excess of the same. When something as simple as sleep as disturb our body and health if not taken in adequate amounts, imagine what the deficiency of nutrients which help our body to function can do?? There are enough side effects of a low carbohydrate diet to keep you away from one, read on to know more:

1. Exhaustion: Carbohydrates are the most important source of energy in our body. By opting for a low-carbohydrate diet, we are basically substituting this source of energy with proteins and fat. While it is done to control the level insulin in the body, indirectly we are also restricting the amount of energy released. To add to this, since it takes longer for the human body to metabolize protein and fat, the time taken for release of energy is also prolonged. Not to forget that the body also consumes energy to metabolize food and then transport and absorb nutrients, this creates a further deficit before finally releasing the limited amount of energy. As a result of these actions and factors, a person on low-carbohydrate diet would get exhausted quickly and a general sense of being active is missing at most times.

2. Malnutrition: is an obvious and direct consequence of depriving our body of any essential nutrients. The concept of balanced diet is imperative to be followed and any deviation from the basic needs of the body would undoubtedly result in under nutrition and problems arising from the same.

3. Increase in fat intake: while decreasing the amount of carbohydrate rich food in the diet, the few options left regarding nutrients would be protein and fat. Choosing to eat meat and dairy products which are high in protein (and also fat) lead to an increase in cholesterol levels which would then ultimately lead to heart related problems. It goes without saying that including good carbohydrates in the diet are not just essential for weight loss or bodybuilding, but also for the general well being of the body.

4. Osteoporosis: is another problem which can strike earlier than it should (with age) when on a low-carbohydrate diet. A diet rich in protein would result in the release or loss of calcium from the body through the urinal process. This deficit in calcium would directly have effects on the chemistry and strength of bones leading to osteoporosis.

5. Ketosis: an increased intake of protein (when on a low-carb diet) results in a higher production of ketone. This is an acidic molecule found in blood vessels. These extra ketones affect the kidney by making it harder of it to perform essential functions.

6. Bad Breath: a surprising and rare side effect of a low- carb diet, bad breath is a result of extra ketones in the blood.

7. Digestive problems: by restricting the intake of carbohydrates in our body, the fiber content of the food we eat is also affected. Since most fiber rich foods are rich sources of carbohydrates, these are obviously omitted from the daily diet. Fiber, as is known, aides in digestion and helps to expand the intestines thus helping the passage of food. A common and immediate effect of fiber-deficient diet is constipation.

Now I ask you, are carbs really bad? From what I can tell you, they have a positive effect on your health, sense of well being, positive effect on testosterone ratios/total testosterone, glycogen retention/resynthesis, muscle growth, and energy production/utilization. I would say a moderate to high carbohydrate diet is a GREAT idea. In the course of working towards our goal to achieve the perfect body shape and size, it is natural to explore and learn the best ways to complement our time spent exercising. It is also obvious that working out alone, even for 2-3 hours a day will not be beneficial unless accompanied by a change in our lifestyle. A change in lifestyle does not mean depriving the body of essential nutrients or even starving the body. The easiest way to make an effective change is to make the right food choices. Carbohydrates are essential for the well being of our body and mind. Even when trying to lose weight, carbohydrates are essential. It is not carbohydrates which are to be omitted but you only need to choose to eat good carbohydrates to achieve the goal you have set for yourself. Besides, helping in achieving the size zero or six pack abs, a diet rich in the correct form of carbohydrates will also help you to maintain what you have achieved!

It seems as though some members of congress are still trying to push this bill forward despite the billions of Americans who are against it. Gee What else is new? Well For anyone out there who does not yet understand the bill in its entirety let me brake it down for you as simple as I can.

I will start by saying this. Injustice Should Not Be Tolerated!
There has been an extensive debate on whether the newly formed act pertaining to the restrictions laid on the use of dietary supplement should be permitted to pass or not. After a lot of research, it has become obvious that the act which was initiated by FDA was a sham and it was solely passed so as to fill the coffers of large drug manufacturing companies. Well, this is not at all right, is it? Of course it is not a just proposal and has been initiated simply because a few unscrupulous individuals want to generate a sizable income from it. Each and every individual as well as governmental and non governmental organization has the right to live in a free world but owing to unrealistic restrictions imposed on the sale of relatively harmless bodybuilding supplements, the entire scenario has changed and life has become exceedingly harsh for the small food supplement companies who make a simple living by providing the highest quality of muscle building supplement to the masses at a fraction of the original cost.

What Is S. 3002?
The S 3002 is a bill that has been forwarded to make the necessary changes to the food, cosmetic as well as the existing drug act so that the dietary act can be regulated in a more effective and efficient manner. This bill was introduced by Mr. McCain and Mr. Dorgan during the second cession of the 111th congress. The bill has then read twice over and then presented to the committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pension. The main agenda of the bill was to regulate and revise the existing acts so that consumers who were unaware of the potential safety risks attached to a particular food supplement could be spared of the wrath. This has also been cited as the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010.

The Dietary Supplement Act of 2010- A Real Bad Law
The bill in reality is a sham and needs to be amended at the very outset. In fact, it simply should never be allowed to be passed by the senate. The main purpose of this bill is to raise the prices of the dietary supplements so that the normal consumer cannot make use of them on a regular basis. If this bill is allowed to pass, the FDA has complete control over the supplements that you consume. In simple words, your freedom of choice would be compromised and you would not be allowed to consume what you feel like consuming. The main purpose of the bill is to squander tax revenues and burden the private sector with an increased cost pertaining to scientific research in manufacturing food items. It would simply make the existing dietary supplements expensive and the consumers would never really be able to use them as freely as they did in the past. One of the main reasons sited behind this bill is to safeguard the vested interest of the big pharmaceutical companies. As the government makes substantial profits from them, they always try and subdued the dietary supplement industry by tightening the noose around their neck. This bill is a complete sham because it is simply forcing the American public to use expensive medicines in the form of ‘prescription drugs’ and avoid using natural and inexpensive dietary supplements.
The bill was passed when it was found that basketball players participating in major basketball leagues had started using anabolic steroids to enhance their performance in the game. There were also talks regarding certain unethical companies which sold anabolic steroids claiming that it was a simple dietary supplement and this in turn duped the senate into believing that FDA should be given the right to control the manufacturing, supply as well as the certification of dietary supplements. The FDA has the right to remove all dietary supplements which are containing anabolic steroids from the market. Nonetheless, it needs to be noted that FDA failed in its job as there were numerous dietary supplement manufacturers who were selling prescription drugs openly. If the FDA has failed in the past, it may fail again and no matter how stringent the laws are the fact remains that supplement companies would continue to sell dietary supplements tainted with prescription drugs.
The main reason why this bill produced a worldwide outrage against FDA was because this authority has also decided to remove all the natural supplements that are readily available in the open market. Well, the million dollar question which arises after reading this fact is that why did the FDA not ban those companies which were illegally distributing prescription drugs in the open market when they have the authority to do so and why is FDA after those dietary companies which are indulged in producing natural supplements, which in turn are supposedly good for the human body.
The main problem is that the FDA is governed by large pharmaceutical organizations and hence, they try and intervene in the overall functioning of the FDA. Hence, it would not be difficult for these large pharmaceutical companies to control your jurisdiction with regards to the sale and ban of particular supplements. They would certainly try and create a monopoly through which they would continue to promote their own drugs and simply sideline others which are not under its banner. A classic example is the ban on Vitamin B6, a drug which was well suited for a particular pharmaceutical company so that it could use Vitamin B6 as an active ingredient in an expensive drug that was ideally used for treating diabetic kidney failure.
Once this bill is passed, pharmaceutical companies would have an open hand in filing patents and then taking over inexpensive dietary supplements before converting them into expensive medicines that could generate sizable profit in the longer run. A suitable example would be the fish oil prescription drug. It is supposedly priced seven times higher than the fish oil that is used in natural dietary supplements. Why would you want to pay seven times more for a simple EPA/DHA fish oil supplement when you can have it at a lesser price by consuming natural dietary supplements? Just imagine if the FDA has the power to ban omega3 and omega9 fish oil dietary supplements and replace them with exorbitantly priced prescription drugs containing the same ingredient. It would be a simple ‘rip-off’ and no one is going to be happy. The only individuals or entities that would be pleased would be the pharmaceutical companies manufacturing these expensive prescription drugs. After all, they would reap the desired profits from this deal.
The main purpose of passing the bill titled Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010 is to simply mislead the general public into believing that it is for their benefit. But in reality, it is just the opposite. The bill states that it protects the consumers and the ironic question which arises after reading this statement is that ‘what does it protect the consumers from?’ Interestingly, even the FDA does not have the answer to this question.
It is also very interesting to note that in accordance to the annual report published by the American Association of Poison Control Centers, it was ascertained that not even a single individual had died in the year 2008 after consuming dietary supplements. As a matter of fact, deaths arising from the consumption of dietary supplements are virtually non existent in the entire decade. On the contrary, there have been several million deaths recorded with regards to the consumption of prescription drugs which are manufactured rampantly by leading drug companies. Despite all this, the bill would provide legal rights to the FDA to go right ahead and prepare a list which would bifurcate supplements which can be allowed and those that need to be banned and all this would be solely based upon maximizing the profit margins of large drug manufacturing companies. Not only would that stop you accessing the dietary supplements of your choice, you would also suffer numerous other adverse consequences.
As there is simply no logic in the legislations, it would not be long before consumers would simply start protesting against this bill. At the same time, the bill has the power to classify any dietary supplement as adulterated. If the concerned dietary manufacturing company is not registered with the secretary, the FDA has a legal right to ban its products as and when it feels like by simply terming them as ‘adulterated content’. It is interesting to note that the manufacturers who are involved in producing dietary supplements have been known to follow the best practices. They are also known as ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’. So, why should they be made to spend exorbitant amounts of money in the form of overhead costs, so as to ensure that the whims of FDA are followed at all times? Ironically, all this seems to be a direct handiwork of large pharmacy companies who seek benefit from simply taking over the dietary supplement industry and using it as an immensely profitable venture which would last a lifetime.
If this act is allowed to pass, it would give rise to a new class of taxpayer aided bureaucrats who would then try and extend their monopoly by controlling the already weakened and overburdened dietary supplement companies. They would simply make use of the federal clout to execute their hideous plans. At the same time, the process of manufacturing dietary supplements would become exceedingly difficult if this bill is allowed to pass. One of the main reasons why this would happen is because in order to get a proper registration procedure in place, the concerned company would have to get their paperwork submitted to the desired FDA authorities and this process would need to be repeated for the formulation, re-formulation as well as the introduction of any new ingredient in the already present formula.
This is simply done so as to ensure that low costing dietary supplements are made to undergo rigorous paperwork, after which they would become costlier than most pharmaceutical drugs available in the open market. This is a planned strategy which is all set to ensure that the low costing dietary supplements are transformed into extremely expensive medications that are simply unaffordable by ordinary consumers. The registration requirements are simply burdensome and they are also voluminous in nature. The paperwork is also considered mandatory and it has to be submitted along with the fixed overhead fee to the FDA authorities. Thereafter, it is completely in the hands of the FDA to either approve or decline the application. At the same time, the FDA is also not obliged to furnish any reason for the same. Isn’t that unfair?
Once this bill is approved and the dietary supplement manufacturers are forced to pay exorbitant sums of money in a bid to get their supplements passed, there would be no scope for the introduction of a new dietary supplement in the market. Well, the reason for this is very simply-why would any supplement manufacturer like to pay an exorbitant fee in a bid to introduce a new dietary supplement in the market, especially when its chances of getting rejected are comparatively high? This is one of the main reasons why the chances of any new dietary supplement hitting the market would be simply nullified.
Once this happens and there is complete lack of new dietary supplements hitting the open markets, the pharmaceutical companies would get the right to simply control the entire drug market. They would enjoy this monopoly that has been executed to perfection by the FDA and this in turn would also ensure that they capitalize on this by maximizing their profits. At the same time, if any new dietary supplement does make it to the open market, the fact remains that it would be so expensive that most ordinary individuals would never really be able to afford it. Hence, instead of opting for the all natural, newly launched dietary supplements, consumers would prefer to buy ineffective pharmaceutical drugs, which in this scenario, would be less expensive.
In case there are any serious adverse reaction reports, the FDA requires that the manufacturing companies need to maintain proper records for the same. At the same time, all non serious adverse events would also need to be submitted to the Federal government and this in turn would prove to be immensely problematic to the concerned dietary supplement manufacturing company. One of the main reasons why this would prove problematic to the concerned company is because whenever a new dietary supplement is launched, it is automatically distributed and then consumed by a wide variety of individuals.
Once that happens, the dietary supplement is not merely limited to certain entities but is a product that is being used by all kinds of individuals who in turn belong to diverse backgrounds. Because of this very reason, the chances are that a few of these individuals may not like a particular dietary supplement, for reasons unknown and they may send in written complaints for the same. Owing to these handful of individuals, the newly launched product, which otherwise was being enjoyed by millions of relevant users, may come under the scanner of the FDA and may in turn be banned as well. Do you think this is fair? Well, I don’t think so!
This could also lead to a sabotage wherein the FDA may simply get a few written samples readied which clearly state that a particular product was unfit for human consumption. This in turn may simply force the newly launched dietary supplement to be banned for no apparent reasons. So, numerous possibilities can be formed when this act is passed, or is allowed to pass. This is not at all correct and should be stopped at the very outset. At the same time, most pharmaceutical companies using the freedom of information act, may simply seek the removal of a particular dietary supplement which they feel is a posing to be a direct threat to their already existing drugs.
The freedom of information act would be used by the large drug manufacturing companies to gather all the adverse reaction reports so that they can easily compile them and then submit them to the FDA department requesting the concerned officials to simply remove the newly launched dietary supplement from the market. This is unfair and is simply an act of ensuring that only those products which are manufactured by the pharmaceutical companies are made readily available to the concerned individuals, so that the large drug companies can make immense profit from the entire deal. This again is an unfair means of ensuring that the large drug manufacturing companies maintain their monopoly over the existing food supplement market.
It should be understood that there are millions of cases and reported claims that have categorically stated that prescription drugs have led to the death of individuals, which otherwise could have easily been avoided. These reports are on the files of the FDA but no actions has been taken against those pharmaceutical companies as yet and most drugs that were under scanner are still being widely distributed across the country. Isn’t that unfair and a clear example of a biased attitude adopted by the FDA? As a matter of fact, these drugs are never ever removed from the marketplace, let alone being banned despite repeated written complaints about them.
After this act is allowed to pass, the FDA would possess the rights to remove all the dangerous objects from the shelves of super marts as well as online shops. Even if a dietary supplement has been known to have a minor defect, it would be termed as a supplement which is under scanner and it can be removed from the shelves as and when the need arises. If this bill is passed, FDA would have the ability to exercise its tyrannical will over all the supplement manufacturing companies and it can either ban or approve one or more newly launched or existing supplements at its own discretion. This is a supreme power to exercise control over all the food manufacturing supplements and the FDA would never really shy from using this power as and when they please.
In the year 1990, the FDA had passed a law which stated that numerous supplements such as CoQ10, selenium and a few other harmless dietary supplements were supposed to be harmful for human consumption and were therefore banned from being used as active ingredients in dietary food supplements. When the public revolted against this ban as it was simply uncalled for, this led to the induction of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act. This took place in the year 1994. This is actually a law which permits individuals using low costing dietary supplements to maintain their existing doses and this also saves these individuals to get into unwanted trouble through the means of FDA agencies. If the Dietary Supplement Safety Act is allowed to pass, then the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act would be simply defenseless against it.

Here Is the True Story
The main reasons behind the initiation of the bill, as discussed before, is the fact that most pharmaceutical companies want that they should be making immense profit while leaving behind the low costing and at times more effective dietary supplement. This can be better explained through the mean of this example. Just imagine that you awe a large pharmaceutical company and you are primarily indulged in producing a particular expensive medicine, which is used for treating a specific body part. This also helps you in reaping the desired profits on a regular basis. What would happen if you find out that a low costing dietary supplement has proven to be much better than your existing medicine and is being preferred by people from all walks of life? Well, you would be simply irate and would do all that you can within your powers to try and ensure that the newly launched product is done away with. You would use the hook or crook methodology for the same.
As you simply cannot patent the product but you have substantial control over the congress, you would automatically try and ensure that you influence your powerful friends and convince them to move a petition which enables you either get a patent right for the newly launched dietary supplement or influence the FDA, which again you partly own, to remove the newly launched product from the market. The main purpose of the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010, is to simply try and make sure that the large pharmaceutical companies maintain their monopoly in the open market at all times. Not only would this bill ensure that the big pharmaceutical companies maintain their stronghold in the medicine market, it would also ensure that no new dietary supplement gets a chance to get a breakthrough in the open market.
The biggest problem we face, in terms of economic crisis, is the creation of ‘health care’, when in reality; there is no real need for the so called expensive ‘health care’ facilities. One of the main reasons why health care is so over priced and expensive is because it has been over regulated in the most corrupt fashion that you can think off. There is also a myth regarding the term, ‘disease care cost’ and in reality there is no such term as this and it is simply hyper inflated to suit the needs of the large pharmaceutical companies across the United States. In reality, ‘disease care cost’ can be easily taken care off through the means of using simple, affordable and effective, dietary supplements. Hence, the drugs which are available in the open market are highly overpriced and sold primarily to reap profits.
If you really want to get more information regarding the malpractices which this bill could lead to if it is allowed to pass, then you should read the book titled FDA Failure, Deception and Abuse. It clearly shows just how the congress plans to simply wipe out the existing low cost dietary supplement industry and replace it with expensive prescription drugs so that the large pharmaceutical companies could reap the desired profits. While the profits of the large drug manufacturing companies would increase four folds once this bill is allowed to pass, the country’s economy would simply crash as there is no real need for such expensive medications when the disease can be cured using low costing alternate therapies and dietary supplements that have no adverse side effects attached.
It is really ironical when we delve into the depths of the bill and realize that the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010, is in reality a sham and is primarily meant to reap profits for the pharmaceutical companies and it has got nothing to do with trying to protect the general public from substandard supplements. One of the main reasons cited behind this act is that the FDA as well as the congress simply would like to protect the existing drug cartel as it has been paying most of their bills and helping them lead luxurious lives.
The act is a clear indicator of how the congress openly discriminates against private sector innovations and undermines the success and even the mere existence of the upcoming free markets. The good news is that the existing numbers of dietary supplement users are quite substantial and they would certainly fight for their rights.

The Real Story In Brief:
What File?
At the very outset, it needs to be noticed that the suppliers as well as the retailers would be required to obtain the required written evidence which in turn would be provided by the FDA in order to start manufacturing a dietary supplement. Ironically, the paperwork that is being designed by the FDA may change from time to time and may also be used in differently or rather prepared differently for different dietary supplement manufacturers. The so called ‘evidence’, then needs to be saved in a special file and made available for inspection as and when required by the FDA.

What Ingredient List?
Ironically, the pre DSHEA test would now be replaced with a list of ingredients that need to be adhered to while formulating a new dietary supplement. This is also termed as the ‘Accepted Dietary Supplement’ list.
New Laws against Active Ingredients
It is interesting to note that the new dietary ingredient list is considered to be useless unless it has a history of use and also a suitable evidence to back its safety in terms of human consumption. This list would have to be once again maintained in a separate file and displayed to the concerned authorities seventy five days prior to the release of the product.
The Recall Procedure
If the product has been deemed harmful for human consumption and is stated to cause harm to the human body as per the jurisdiction of the FDA guidelines, it can be recalled and banned from being sold in the open market. At the same time, it needs to be noted that the concerned brand of supplement needs to send out reminders to the consumers with regards to such recalls and all this needs to be taken care off at their personal expense. The concerned dietary company also has a right to challenge the FDA ban through the means of an ‘informal hearing’, within a time span of 10 days.
The Annual Registration
The dietary supplement manufacturers are now supposed to register with the secretary on an annual basis and provide an extensive list of their address, trade name, list of the ingredients used in dietary supplements as well as the labels required. This needs to be followed up with a hefty annual fee.
Reasons Why This Bill Is Not Right
While we have discussed in detail the main reasons why the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010 is being proposed by the congress as well as the FDA and we have also come to the conclusion that the bill, if passed, would have adverse repercussions for consumers. Let us now discuss in brief the main reasons why this bill is supposed to be harmful for the consumers as well those individuals who would like to get treated in a holistic manner.

1. The Bill Is Simply Unfair
The first reason why this bill should not be allowed to pass is because it is simply unjust and unfair. While there have been numerous instances wherein people from all walks of life have complained regarding the passing of the bill, very few are actually aware that this bill is in reality a restriction on the basic rights of human beings. In simple words, the Dietary Supplement Act of 2010 would impose strict restrictions on the purchase of dietary supplements, which in turn would ensure that you would never really be able to purchase the holistic supplements from the open market. While there was a time when you could use simple weigh proteins for building your body but after this bill is passed, you would not be able to purchase a simple body building supplement from an online store.

2. It Is Completely Biased
The second reason why this bill is supposed to be unfair is because it is biased in its opinion. In simple words, the bill has been initiated by the selfish pharmaceutical companies who simply want to try and ensure that they have a complete monopoly over the drug market. Now their plea is being backed by the FDA as well as the congress and the reason why they are aiding the big drug companies is because the pharmaceutical companies pay them a hefty fee, which in turn helps them run their stores and enjoy lavishing lifestyles.

3. It Is Not Acceptable
The third reason why the Dietary Supplement Act of 2010 needs to be squashed at the outset is simply because, it is not acceptable and just in its approach. In simple words, once the act is passed, the dietary supplement manufacturers would not have the ability to produce and then launch new products as and when they feel the need to do so. This is simply because it would not be permitted by the FDA.

4. The Overhead Expenses Are Skyrocketing
The fourth reason why this bill needs to be stopped is because it is going to be very expensive for the dietary supplement manufacturing companies. This is so because if the bill is approved, the FDA would impose heavy fee in terms of annual registration charges and they would also try and ensure that the dietary supplement manufacturers have to pay exorbitant amounts of money while trying to either introduce a new product or promote an existing product in the open market. The fee is so high that it would force many small dietary supplement manufacturing companies to either shut shop or seek alternate business opportunities. This would be certainly a huge setback for numerous supplement manufacturing companies.

5. The Consumers Would Have No Options
Another disadvantage of passing this bill would be the fact that the consumers would be left with no options whatsoever in trying to get their hands on alternate supplements. It so happens that the bill would simply shut shops for many small dietary supplement manufacturing companies and would impose such strict restrictions on those that are still functioning that the manufacturers would be forced to stop creating new dietary supplements.

7. The Price Would Be Too Step
Once the overhead cost involved in the manufacturing of dietary supplements increases, the individuals who are involved in the manufacturing process would be forced to increase the prices of their supplements. In fact, the once low-priced dietary supplements would become exceedingly expensive and people would be simply forced to opt for other options. These other options would be none other than prescription drugs marketed by large pharmaceutical companies. So, this bill is in reality a systematic approach towards culling the low priced dietary supplement industry.

8. Lack of Transparency
The eighth reason why the bill titled Dietary Supplement Act Of 2010 needs to be squashed is because it does not have any sort of transparent plan. In simple words, the acts as well as the regulations are all decided upon by the concerned FDA official and the word of mouth states that the FDA may have different written agreements with different dietary supplement manufacturing companies. Owing to this very reason the fact remains that there is no fixed rule in place and that the FDA can exercise its legal right in whichever manner it feels appropriate. This is also one of the main reasons why dietary supplement manufacturing companies would never really be able to decide upon a plan of action to either make changes in their existing supplement or during the introduction of a new dietary supplement.

9. The Freedom of Choice
Last but not the least, the Dietary Supplement Act of 2010 would simply curb the freedom of choice. In simple terms, if this bill is allowed to pass, consumers would not be able to purchase those dietary supplements which they had become habitual to. In fact, they would never really be able to get hold of simple, effective as well as affordable supplements which had helped them develop their physique and they would also never really be able to understand the real reason why the same supplement is unavailable for their personal use. In reality, the freedom of choice would be taken away from the consumer’s hands if this bill is allowed to pass in the senate. At the same time, the manufacturing companies dealing in dietary supplements would be left with no other options but to seek an alternate business strategy in a bid to survive this cut throat competition. At the end of it all, there would be no dietary supplements left in the market and people would have to make do with over priced prescription drugs that would reap immense profits for the large pharmaceutical companies.
If you are really keen to avoid burning a hole in your pocket, you simply need to click here and send an alert to the two senators as well as the members of the senate so as to ensure that they are kept in the loop and are made aware of the fact that the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010 is nothing but a sham and that it needs to be stopped from being passed at all costs.
